This evening we were treated to a fabulous display of nature. We went along to Brough Park in Leek at sunset to witness the starling murmuration. What a sight it was too!
A murmuration of starlings is an amazing sight – a swooping mass of thousands of birds whirling in the sky above.
It’s thought that starlings congregate in these remarkable ‘murmurations‘ to keep warm in the cold weather and to deter possible predators, which are confused by the swirling masses. Despite a recent drop in their overall population, you can still witness the mesmerising sight of thousands of birds performing their aerial dance at dawn and dusk.
I would highly recommend taking advantage of the cold weather and go and see this for yourself. Brough Park in Leek is just one place that this spectacular show happens, but if you search online you can find places near to you too. If you are local to Leek then what are you waiting for!
